Invasive Species, Seed Bombs, and Daylight Savings

  Happy (almost) Spring! The ground is thawing, the first flowers are starting to pop up, and the Asian Lady Beetles are finding their way into my apartment! Not to be confused with our native Ladybugs, Harmonia axyridis are their smelly, more aggressive cousins. Last weekend, we may have lost an hour to Daylight Savings, but my Anxiety and ADHD combined their forces like a messed-up episode of Captain Planet. Their mission? To ensure I would learn every possible fact about this "fun" little beetle in a single Sunday morning! Fun Facts: Asian Lady Beetles were introduced by the USDA several times between 1916 and 1983 to help control Aphids. Great Job Tax Dollars!  Their favorite snack is the Soybean Aphid, another invasive species that helps keep their population booming. Out of the Forge

 Other than a recent repost to remove a photo, it has been over a decade since I last posted here. I’m not even sure where to begin. I look back at these old posts fondly, but they don't necessarily represent the person I am today. I wanted to share an update before diving back into my crafts. ​About a decade ago, I pulled the Temperance card from a tarot deck during a meditation. I wasn’t trying to predict the future or anything that serious; I was just considering new ideas and opening myself up to whatever the universe had for me. ​What I didn’t realize was that the universe had a forge—and like steel, I was about to be tempered. The fire began with a whirlwind romance that pulled me out of New York City and back to the suburbs. Baby Blankets!

It has been a VERY long time since I have posted anything. While taking a break from blogging , I made two simple granny square blankets, for my favorite niece and nephew. Kai's is a simple blue granny square with a triangle hood . I just kept making the square bigger until it was the size that I wanted. Annalise's blanket is also made with granny squares. I decided what I wanted it to look like on graph paper so that I would know how many granny squares to make. It looks fancier, but it is still just a regular granny square blanket. Mario's Super Mushroom - Free Amigurumi Pattern

Felling a little small today? I have something that might help :) This pattern was actually a happy accident. I originally wanted to make a drawstring mushroom pouch, but I wasn't exactly pleased with the way it was coming out. Rather than pulling out the stitches and starting over, I decided to continue with the project and make a mushroom amigurumi. Materials: Worsted weight acrylic yarn: less than one skein of each color Red - Mushroom top (A) , Tan - Mushroom bottom (B) , White - Spots (C)   2 small black safety eyes (When making projects for animals or babies/toddlers, I recommend replacing the eyes with black embroidery floss to lessen the risk of choking)  Suggested hook: H (5mm), or a hook appropriate to the yarn you are using  Blunt yarn needle  fiberfill stuffing  Stitch marker  Pins for holding spots to mushroom while sewing  Abbreviations:  * *          Repeat directions in the asterisks ...

Walking Dead Amigurumi - Daryl Dixon

             I love zombies! Zombie books, zombie movies, zombie shows, zombie crafts. Having read most of the comic series The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman , I am very pleased with the show on AMC . Many people dislike when a series deviates from the original plot lines, but I love it. The changes made allow me to continue to be interested and continue to be surprised. One of my favorite changes was adding the character Daryl Dixon . After season two's mid season finale (which inspired my zombie Sophia cat toy ) I can not wait for the show to come back on February 12th! Etsy Shop is Open!

I am very excited to announce that I have officially opened an Etsy Shop! Right now I only have one item listed, but it is still very exciting. Since I am in a full time MS OT program, I haven't had a lot of time to crochet (or update here), but with winter break coming up I plan to remedy that shortly. After watching a nail biting mid season finale of The Walking Dead a few weeks ago, I had been itching to crochet a zombie sophia.
